PLACID

The PLACID is something a little different;

Do you have a quiet or shy brother who is a complete mad dog when you get to know him? I do. This board is the Acid’s Maddog brother. To look at it looks kinda tame with its wider nose. But look closer, get to know it. It has quite a lot of rocker, fine rails, performance bottom contours. The placid is just its name. Not it’s character.

Description

01 GENERAL GOAL | THEME OF THE BOARD

High performance board made for a wide range of conditions packed into a stable outline.

02 WAVE TYPE ||| SIZE IT’S WORKING BEST

Most real world conditions. From knee high to well overhead. Just swap to a bigger rear fin, in bigger hollow waves.

03 MANEUVERS IT DOES BEST

Everything you like to do on your performance SUP.;

04 SKILL LEVEL IT’S BEST FOR

Novice to pro. Just choose the size according to level.

05 PADDLE POWER

SPEED: Average.

DIRECTIONAL CONTROL: Yaw expected in surf sups. Always size dependent.

OVER WHITE WATER: Quite good with the fuller nose.

WAVE CATCHING ABILITY: Pretty standard. The wider front half gives a little more glide but this board has a performance oriented rocker which slows glide a little bit but makes later drops possible.

06 WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF WHEN YOU DESIGNED IT?

I wanted a stable board that didn’t compromise on performance. I got the stability from the wider nose. The tail is fairly narrow, plenty of outline curve, combined with a lot of rocker and thin rails makes tight performance turns in the pocket easy. The extra rocker in the tail helps to ride out of critical turns in the pocket, without catching the wider nose by shifting weight over the tail. Bigger sides and smaller rear give it a little more pivot in smaller surf. If you want to use this board in bigger waves then just replace the rear with a bigger fin for more hold and drive.…

07 WHAT IT POSSIBLY COMPROMISES ON THEN?

The wider nose takes some adjusting to. Can be harder to ride out of in critical turns off the lip until you get used to really weighting the tail.…

OUTLINE

Wider outline in the nose working its way to a very pulled in performance tail. The wider nose gives the added stability which may help you ride this board slightly shorter than other boards. The pulled in rounded tail gives you more hold and confidence as the waves get bigger than you’d expect from a board of this design. Plenty of outline curve in this board helps with turning tight and hard.

RAILS

Up front the rails are fairly tucked to make it a little more forgiving due to the nose width. Through the middle, the rails are thin and low and help give that bite when this wide curvy board is on rail. This also reduces volume which prevents the board from skipping out mid bottom turn. The tail rails are very hard and thin and give good release and plenty to push hard against, combined with the thin, low sides you’ll never feel like you need to nurse the board through hard turns.

ROCKER

This board has quite a lot of rocker, it has a little flip in the nose to help that wider outline in late drops or critical turns into and off the lip. Fairly similar rocker to the acid through the middle of the board and a little extra through the tail. Helping with tight turns and keeping the nose from pearling after late turns off the lip or tight hacks in the pocket.

BOTTOM

Single to double concave to V. Concave front engages the rail quickly on the drop, hooks you into turns faster and gets you up to speed effortlessly. The double to V helps with rail to rail transitions and keeps the tail nice and locked in at speed.

DECK

Fairly rolled deck. The main goal being thin performance rails. The bonus with this is chop doesn’t “hit” the rails when you’re paddling around the lineup. It rolls over the board making it more predictable and therefore stable.

FINS

This board comes with very different fins to our other models. It has quite a large set of sides and a smaller rear. Not quite a twin+1 setup. We kept a slightly bigger rear than your typical twin+1 to keep a little more drive. Also supplied with quad fins if that’s your thing. If you’re going to use bigger waves just upsize your rear.

A great comfort board due to the extra width in the nose and middle. Nonetheless, this board still performs to a high level. It’s performance, with comfort built in.
